Welcome to SuitUp: Swimming for Life!
LOCATION AND PARKING
My address is: 21302 Park Valley Dr, Katy, TX 77450.
The pool is in our backyard, so please enter through the gate on the left side of our home. Please always supervise your children as you are coming into the backyard.
Please Park in my driveway or along Park Brush. To be respectful of my neighbors please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your lesson time. The swim lessons run back-to-back, so please be on time.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
FOR SCHEDULED LESSONS, I WILL DO MY BEST TO MONITOR THE WEATHER THROUGH OUT THE DAY. HOWEVER, I AM TYPICALLY IN THE POOL NON-STOP, SO I AM UNABLE TO CONSTANTLY KEEP AN EYE ON THE RADAR.
SHOULD THE WEATHER PROVE TOO INCLEMENT TO HOLD A LESSON, I WILL LET YOU KNOW TO RESCHEDULE, VIA TEXT MESSAGE. SOMETIMES, THIS TEXT WILL COME AS LATE AS 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED LESSON. WE WILL SCHEDULE A MAKE UP LESSONS FOR ANOTHER DAY THAT WEEK.
DIAPERS
If your child is not potty-trained, please have him or her wear a disposable swim diaper underneath a reusable swim diaper. The double-protection is important for containing any “contaminates.”
SWIMWEAR AND SUNSCREEN
Students should wear normal swimwear and may choose to wear a rash-guard style shirt for sun protection. Please apply sunscreen to all children before they arrive for their lessons.
PLEASE NO FOOD 1.5 HOURS BEFORE LESSONS.
GOGGLE POLICY
It is good for kids to learn to swim without goggles on, however, if the child is insistent on wearing them, I am ok with it. We will do all skills without goggles at the end.
Please email or call me with any questions that you may have.

Thank you for your interest in Suit Up: Swimming for Life Swim School.
Greetings! My name is Cameron Balkom, I am the owner and head coach of Suit Up Swim School. I hold certifications with Red Cross as a lifeguard & lifeguard instructor. I was a competitive swimmer for 10 years of my life and swam D1 in College at The University of Houston. After college, I managed 2 different swim school programs before I branched off on my own. I have been teaching swim lessons for the last 11 years. I have worked at and managed various programs and taught various techniques. My passion is to make sure everyone becomes comfortable and safe in and around the water. I teach all ages starting at 6 months through adult, water safety, stroke development, and coaching. During my down time I enjoy working out, reading, DIYing, and hanging out with my dog. Please reach out to me for more information so I can enrich your swimming experience.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to help your child learn survival swimming skills and enjoy many safe summers for years to come! Here are some common questions I receive.
Our program is designed to teach Survival Skills BEFORE beginning Stroke Development. I will teach them to swim with their face in the water and roll onto their back to float independently. Depending on their age and continued progress, I will then teach them to flip from an independent float to having their face in the water again so that they can propel themselves towards a wall or step to safety. This “swim-float-swim” sequence is the key to helping a child survive when they are in a body of water. I believe survival is the foundation of learning to be a safe & happy swimmer.
No swim method is guaranteed, and every child learns at a different pace based on many factors. However, this method has been tested and shown to be highly effective in helping a child survive. That said, it is extremely important to still follow all drowning prevention measures such as having adult supervision, locking pool gates and outdoor access during non-swim periods, consistently practicing swimming skills with your child.
Each lesson is a one-on-one, private, 20 minutes – 30 minutes depending on age and ability.
The lessons are initially 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday, for 4 weeks. The duration truly depends on the progress your child makes, their age, and prior swim experiences. At the end of 4 weeks, we will reassess how many more lessons are needed.
Once all lessons are complete, I encourage you to continue to bringing your child for maintenance lessons throughout the year. This makes it easier to keep the “swim-float-swim” skills fresh over the colder months and makes for a much faster refresher the following summer. Keep in mind, my swim lesson season runs year-round depending on weather. I do have a heater on my pool that will be used during the cooler months.
I always avoid the parent being in the water unless necessary for the comfort of the child. At the end of the 4 week session, I may have you get in to show you how to practice with your child.
I teach in my heated backyard pool. During the cooler months, the pool temperature is kept at 90 degrees.
I am in the Katy area, Mason rd & I-10
Your child’s ability to survive in the water is an invaluable investment! Pricing depends on the length of time the lesson. $180/week for 30 minute lessons. $ 120/week for 20 minute lessons. Individual lessons are $45/30min $30/20min $67.50/45 minute.
Invoicing will be done through square space. The 1st week tuition is due upon registration to reserve a spot in the program. Additional dues are required on Monday of each week.
